ALiS (Alternate Lighting of Surfaces) Plasma Technology - Hitachi's advanced plasma display design that eliminates the physical grid structure common with conventional plasma designs. ALiS produces a smooth, seamless image, especially noticeable when viewing curves or diagonals. ALiS has been developed to perfectly match the viewable center 1024 lines of a 1080 interlaced HDTV signal, a precise line-for-line display, with no distracting vertical scaling artifacts.
Auto Volume Limiter System (AVLS) - A feature on many personal stereos, it refers to circuitry that manages the audio signal to prevent distortion due to volume peaks.
Big Screen TV Set - Any set with a screen size of 27 inches or larger. Considered a requirement for a home theatre system.
Color Temperature - A scale used to refer to the visible energy system of various light sources. The scale uses degrees Kelvin as a measure of the mixture on a scale from red to blue white. Daylight = 5500 Kelvin, a blue-white color. The Tungsten in a light bulb produces about 3200 Kelvin, an orange color.
Dolby® Digital Surround Sound - A proper DDSS system features six components: two front speakers, a centre speaker, two rear speakers and a subwoofer.
Fader (CD players) - A feature on a CD player that fades out music at the time you specify.
Hi-Fi Color - An alternative printing process that extends the capabilities of printing presses. This system uses stochastic screening, 6-color printing, and other techniques to expand the possible color gamut well beyond that of traditional 4-color processes.
P format - A 4x10 print. The panoramic format, perfect for wide shots.
Quartz Tuning - Electronic tuning that requires no setup and automatically locks in to the strongest signal.
